Sikkim Want Babies!!? THE HUSS AND FUSS OF POPULATION ISSUES IN INDIA

 @Sikkim, North East India

Yes my friend you read the heading right, in a overpopulated country like India, it's own state Sikkim is making laws to give privileges to families with 2 and 3 babies in various sectors. Come with me to my 'pen it down' journey where I'd present some facts, reasons and obviously my opinion about this.

First of all let's take a look over this population chart that explains the increase in population of Sikkim over a decade.

What we could conclude from this is that although there's an increase in population of the the state, but it's just too less for a time period of 10 years i.e. although India's population is showing exponential increases Sikkim is yet lagging behind even in terms of an appropriate working population.

The current growth rate of Sikkim is 1.1% while other states of India like UP and MP ranges around 2-3%. 2.1% is considered as stabilizing rate and leads to a constant population while a rate like that of  Sikkim's leads to declination of the population. Sikkim is facing same problems like that of Japan and that's why the government of Sikkim want the natives to have more babies.

The REASONS for this declining growth rate are many but the major one being high rate of Female working population there. According to the statistics 60%of the female population are working which is approximately double of the national average i.e. 28%. Many surveys claim and even prove that

THE AMOUNT OF WORKING WOMEN IN A PLACE IS INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL TO THE HEALTHY REPRODUCTIVE POPULATION OF THE PLACE

Working female mostly prefer one baby according to their convenience and the modern lifestyle also leads to a major declination in the reproductive capabilities of both male and female. Furthermore if we see, it is more convenient for a family to raise 1 or 2 kids regarding their educational funding and further lifestyles. Sikkim also from always has taken population control campaigns very seriously and has brought them to practice in a very efficient manner, like the minor sex education programs, the contraceptive awareness among teenagers etc. have been impactfully taught and spread among the local tribes the LEPCHAS, the BHUTIAS and the NEPALI SIKKIMESE.

The IMPACTS  of this population crisis includes SIKKIM'S POPULATION TURNING OLD and hence less work force available, more health facilities needed and alas! more younger population to work that's what we are lacking at!

The govt. of Sikkim is even encouraging IVF programs even providing free IVFs and Test Tube Baby conceiving to help their work force. Further a year of paid maternity leave for mother and a month for father with increase in salary with each newborn.

We could obviously think of a lot of solutions regarding the issue, but KEHNA  AASAN  HAI  KARNA  NHI. One could say why not we send youth from other parts of India to Sikkim, but the North-East tribal protection act serves as  an obstacle to do so, as one can't get the citizenship of the state or buy property there that casually and yess!! Indian people do love occupancy in the place they live or serve.

IN MY OPINION, the Sikkim govt. instead of passing laws on it's own, should discuss to the Central govt. in parliament regarding the issue and they may come off with a joint grand plan. Whether that may include loosening of laws for settlement of others there or some other efficient ways, but it's a serious issue and needs to be taken care of as soon as possible.

So that's it about the issue my friends, I tried my best to pen down and explain the whole scenario in a well mannered way. Do express your opinion by commenting.

Thanks!
